Fast-Set powder set accelerator is a pre-measured, chloride-based admixture designed to speed up the chemical reaction between cement and water in mortar batches. Produced by Illinois Products Corporation, this white powder increases early strength development and generates heat to help protect against frost damage during cold weather masonry work. While it is not an antifreeze, it allows masons to work normally in temperatures as low as 15°F and is also effective in warmer weather for anchoring "floaters" like glass block or stone by allowing the mortar to stiffen more quickly.
