Step-by-Step Instruction Sheet
Step-by-Step Instructions for Installing Your Jones and Sons Fire Pit
Step 1: Prepare the Installation Area
- Clear an area with an outside diameter of at least 65″ and an inside diameter of 42″.
- Dig the area to a depth of 8″ to accommodate the stone and sand needed for the wedge block footer.
- Inside the 42″ diameter center, remove an additional 2″ layer to prepare for the decorative aggregate.
Step 2: Add Crushed Stone
- Around the perimeter of the hole, add 6″ deep x 8″ wide of #53 crushed stones.
- This will serve as the foundation (footer) for the wedge blocks that make up the outer ring.
Step 3: Add Mortar Sand
- On top of the crushed stone, spread a 2″ layer of mortar sand.
- This layer helps level the foundation before placing the first course of wedge blocks. Make sure the sand layer is slightly below ground level to prevent washout.
Step 4: Position the Fire Ring
- Place the steel fire ring in the center of the prepared area as a guide while assembling the outer ring. This step is optional but helpful for aligning the wedge blocks.
Step 5: Install the Wedge Blocks
- Begin placing the wedge blocks (available in Buff or Granite) around the perimeter, using 25 blocks per layer. Make sure each block on the bottom row is perfectly level front to back and side to side.
- Stagger each layer so the joints don’t align for added strength and visual appeal.
Step 6: Add Decorative Aggregate
- Fill the sides and bottom (optional) of the fire pit area with lightweight decorative aggregate.
- Leave a few inches at the top of the outside ring to allow for settling, and use the remaining aggregate to fill the base inside the fire ring.
Step 7: Finish and Enjoy
- Use the soil you removed earlier to backfill and level around the outside of the fire pit.
- Your fire pit is ready to enjoy!
